A spam survivor

Posted by: Juan Lopez-Valcarcel In: Off-Topic

Like many other Wordpress users recently, my site was hacked recently by link spammers.

The spammers also deleted my backup files, so I had to reinstall Wordpress (now on version 2.3) and recover previous posts by using this excellent trick that makes the most of Google Reader to retrieve a feed.

I then converted the Atom Google Feed into RSS by using Feedburner Smartfeed. Had to tweak the xml header on the atom file but that went ok. Finally, I imported the feed into Wordpress using the new feature in the Write menu. It was a relief to see that I managed to recover most of my posts, with the exception of the most recent ones.

The dark side of the Web is alive and well with these spam attacks, but it is now time to get back into blogging.

Thanks for your support over the last years !
